Map Overview

The Dam is one of Arc Raiders' larger maps, built around a massive hydroelectric dam structure and the flooded valley surrounding it. The dam itself dominates the centre of the map and acts as both the highest-value loot zone and the most dangerous area — Arc presence around the dam wall and turbine halls is consistently heavy.

The surrounding terrain is a mix of:

  • Industrial outbuildings — lower Arc density, moderate loot
  • Flooded lowlands — navigable but exposed, offers routes between zones
  • Hillside access roads — good flanking routes and sightlines but exposed to flyers

Understanding The Dam's vertical layout is key: most of the dangerous loot is above you, and most of the safe exits are below.

💡 Tip

Approach from the flanks, not the front. The dam face is a kill zone. Flyers patrol the crest and Soldiers cluster near the main entrance. Use the service roads on the east and west sides to approach the turbine halls from below.

Key Landmarks

The Dam Wall — The most recognisable feature. The top of the dam has excellent loot in maintenance lockers but draws heavy Arc patrols. Crossing the top is high-risk; do it only if you need the loot and have Arc thinned out below you.

Turbine Halls (Lower) — Inside the dam base. Two access tunnels lead in from the east and west. Contains high-tier mechanical components and fabrication materials. Multiple Arc units patrol inside. The enclosed space makes Heavies particularly dangerous here — fight only if you have room to kite.

The Gatehouse — A mid-sized structure on the valley approach. Often the first building players hit. Lower loot quality but reliable ammo pickups and medical supplies. Use it to restock before pushing the dam itself.

Spillway Area — Below the dam on the valley floor. Lower Arc activity. Good for players who want to loot without heavy combat, though the loot quality reflects the lower risk.

Eastern Ridge — Elevated terrain with outbuildings. Moderate loot, occasional player traffic as it's a popular approach route. Good sightlines over the dam approach road.

Recommended Loot Routes

Low-risk route (beginner friendly):

Gatehouse → Spillway buildings → Eastern outbuildings → Extract from valley floor

Avoids the dam interior entirely. Lower loot ceiling but consistent materials and low Arc encounters.

Mid-risk route:

Eastern Ridge → Gatehouse → Lower Turbine Hall entrance (clear near entrance only, don't push deep) → Extract via eastern service road

Gets you into the dam for better components without committing to full interior clearance.

High-risk / high-reward:

Deploy early, clear Gatehouse, push both Turbine Halls, clear the dam top, extract via western road

Requires strong Arc combat capability and plenty of ammo. Best materials haul but significant Arc presence to manage throughout. Not recommended solo unless you know the patrol timings well.

💡 Tip

The Turbine Halls are timed runs. Arc reinforcements spawn in the halls at regular intervals after you trigger activity inside. Get in, get your loot from the marked containers, and get out before the second wave arrives. Lingering is how players get surrounded.

Arc Activity on The Dam

Arc presence scales with time and your activity. Key patterns to know:

  • Flyers on the dam crest — Constant patrol. They call in ground reinforcements if they spot you. Cross the top at a sprint, or neutralise the flyer first.
  • Crawlers in the Spillway — Loose packs that are easy to clean up individually but come in waves if you make sustained noise.
  • Heavies in the Turbine Halls — At least one Heavy per hall, sometimes two. Plan your engagement before entering — you need to know your exit route before you start the fight.
  • Soldier patrols on the service roads — Move in pairs. Learn their patrol loop before crossing open ground.

Extract Points

The Dam has multiple extraction zones. Locations shift slightly per match but typically include:

  • Valley floor extract — Lowest elevation, easiest to reach, most accessible from the spillway and eastern approaches. Popular with players doing low-risk routes, which means potential player conflict.
  • Eastern service road — Mid-elevation extract. Less contested than the valley floor but requires you to hold the road against any Arc patrols moving through.
  • Western overlook — Elevated exit above the dam's western approach. Low player traffic but a long walk if you're coming from the turbine halls or eastern side.

Tip: On any given run, identify two extract points before you commit to looting. Having a fallback if your primary is contested saves runs.

💡 Tip

Leave the dam crest before the 20-minute mark. Arc escalation on The Dam is aggressive in the late game. The top of the dam and the turbine halls become nearly impassable. Everything you want from this map should be collected and you should be moving to extract well before then.

Loadout Recommendations for The Dam

Weapons: A mid-range rifle handles most Arc encounters on The Dam effectively. The turbine halls and internal sections benefit from a secondary SMG for tight corridors.

Armour: Medium armour is the sweet spot. The map requires both indoor and outdoor movement — light armour is too fragile for Turbine Hall Heavies, and heavy armour slows you too much for the road segments.

Essential consumables: Two healing items minimum. The Turbine Halls will chip your health even on clean runs. A noise-making throwable (flare, can, etc.) helps create diversions in the halls when you need to reposition.

Backpack: Bring a mid-to-large capacity pack. The dam's high-value loot is bulky — you'll want the carry space to make the risk worthwhile.
